Todesursache: mine

EHLINGEN: Now we, too, in our little village, have had to experience the tragic consequences of this terrible war. Two days ago, Thursday, around three o’clock, a sudden, violent explosion was heard near the village. Soon, a thick cloud of smoke rose, showing passersby the scene of the tragedy. Three schoolchildren, Emil and Alfons Portz and Rudy Stecker, had been playing with mines despite warnings from their parents and teachers, when the terrible event occurred. Emil Portz and Rudy Stecker were killed instantly in the explosion, while Alfons Portz died in the hospital from severe injuries. Everyone’s sympathy goes out to the beleaguered families, especially those evacuated here from Bockholz and Berdorf, who now have destroyed homes. But once again, a strong warning to all: be careful. May this be the last time!
