Todesursache: grenade

HOSINGEN: As we reported on Saturday (LW, July 6), a tragic accident occurred in Hosingen on Friday evening when a 33-year-old man lost his life in a grenade explosion. The homeowner and an acquaintance were working with military ammunition in the garage of the detached house on “An der Meilchen” street when a live explosive device detonated. The 33-year-old acquaintance was killed instantly, while the 49-year-old homeowner was seriously injured and airlifted by rescue helicopter to the hospital in Ettelbrück. Extensive material damage was caused in the house’s basement, to a car parked in front of the house, and to the facade of the neighboring house. Because police officers from Diekirch found further grenades in the basement, the army’s bomb disposal unit was tasked with disposing of the dangerous material. Also present at the scene of the accident were the fire brigade, the ambulance and the rescue unit from Hosingen, the psychological unit of the civil protection, the public prosecutor’s office Diekirch and the measurement and identification service.
