16.06.1945 – Bettendorf

BETTENDORF: The danger from landmines seems to have been eliminated, but unexploded ordnance and hand grenades are still being found everywhere. Thus, one of our best boys, Jean Tholl, who had escaped the Russian front and the Gestapo pursuers unscathed, was violently torn from his hopeful life on Saturday. He found a hand grenade, which exploded in his hand when he attempted to disarm it. The entire community is sympathizing with his grieving father.
